In spring 2026, neighbor Mike Fallon and the NNA’s Native Plant Group applied for and received a Program for Improving Neighborhoods (PIN) grant from the City of Iowa City for a Native Plant Demonstration Project at two residences on the Northside. The resulting “Lawn Love” video showcases these two projects, the volunteers who helped make them possible, and the many good reasons for introducing native plants into our lawns and gardens.

On January 30, 2025, the NNA hosted its first Winter Social at The James Theatre as a way for neighbors to gather informally to enjoy food, drink, and conversation. The event received funding from RSFIC (Resilient Sustainable Future for Iowa City), and their videographer captured some of the action that evening as part of RSFIC’s “Stories of Community” video series. We hope to repeat this and other neighborhood social events in the years to come.

The NNA’s “Goodbye Summer - Hello Neighbors” event at North Market Square Park on Sept. 10, 2023, was made all the more special by Northsider Dave Moore and his musical friends. Check out this snippet of a tune about Dave’s youthful obsession with baseball and school yards.

This 5-minute video was created by Iowa City’s Channel 4 in 2017. It provides a lively overview of the neighborhood’s history, variety, and opportunities. Some content is dated (small kids are now in college!), but the basic character of the neighborhood comes through.

We encourage all residents to support the many businesses housed on the Northside, whether in the popular North Market Square area — as seen in this video by Iowa City’s Downtown District — or on Dodge Street, such as Ace Hardware, Dodge Street Tire & Auto, and the Design Ranch.
